Novel 2 - Untitled

Synopsis

Sara was everything that Jared was looking for in a woman. He had never been more in love with anyone else. Everything was perfect until they had to make a decision. Whether or not to have an abortion. They weren’t married, but had been together for two great years. She didn’t want the baby, but he didn’t want her to have an abortion. She didn’t want to be a mother now especially since she just received her first big break in film.

Also, during this time, Sara has to move back to Spain to be with her ailing father. He just suffered his second stroke and needed someone to take care of the family theater. Since she was an only child, and her mother died a few years after Sara was born, there was nobody else to do it. So Sara stays in Spain. Jared and Sara’s final conversation before she left the US was that she was going to have the abortion.

A year later, Jared started dating again. Alison made Jared happy. They got engaged a year later and on their wedding night, Alison told him that she wanted to be the mother of his child.

Jared and Alison tried to have a baby of their own, but could not because of him. They tried to work it out in their relationship, but the truth was too much for them to handle. She really wanted a child and Jared could not provide this for her. They divorced and Alison married someone else. Jared was devastated.

Thirty years passed. He was hanging around Barnes and Noble browsing through the new releases when he ran across this book, “Closed Heart”.

The book tells a story about a couple who went through the decision of abortion. It’s written in first person, but from two perspectives – the guy’s and the girl’s. It was written in a way that made Jared think that he was wrong for not supporting Sara’s decision. In the book, the author mentions that one of the reasons the girl didn’t want to have a baby was because of how the girl’s mom did not even want her. And how her mom killed herself because she could not even look at her own daughter knowing that she didn’t want her.

Jared wondered if Sara went through the same thoughts. And that she didn’t want to feel that way towards their child. Even though he was still against abortion, Jared finally realized that he should have been there for her. And that by not being with her after it happened, made him realize that he neglected Sara. He had never thought of it that way before. It compelled him to look for her. Even after all these years.

His searches led him to a publisher, who led him to a literary agent, who led him to a woman named Anna Madison, the author of the book. She told him everything.

Sara died just a year ago from breast cancer. She was 52 years old. Before she died, she told Anna everything about her past and she wanted Anna to write a novel about her story. Anna agreed.

Anna explained to him that Sara did not have the abortion. After burying her father in Spain, Sara realized that she didn’t have anyone – and pursuing her career was not going to do it for her. For several months, Sara tried to contact Jared, but he would not return her calls. He even threw away all of her letters without opening any of them. She gave up contacting him and went with the pregnancy on her own. And she raised their daughter, Anna, by herself.

Sara never stopped loving Jared. That is the main reason that she did not have the abortion. After learning everything, Anna kept her promise to her mother and wrote a novel about her story. But Anna chose not to search for her father. After all, in her heart, Jared was not her father. Even though Sara told him that she was having the abortion, it was really Jared who had killed their daughter.
